Lynn Smith
My name is Lynn Smith but as an artist I work under the name 'Lynni' and this is how I sign my work.
I was brought up and spent most of my life in the UK where I ran my own business in London in the film industry supplying backdrops, and my daily clients included BBC, Walt Disney, MGM, Universal etc and many celebrity clients. I really loved it with a passion, but then wanted something different, something even more creative..........so I moved to Mauritius and now love my life even more (I never ever thought it was possible!) spending my days drawing, painting, and sculpting in my studio by the sea which provides a fabulous peaceful setting for my daily work, with constant inspiration provided by the natural beauty of my adopted home. I had always dreamt of becoming an artist from a very early age, so this is really a dream come true !!
I am mainly self taught but to develop my work I also studied under master crafts people, learning marble carving in the quarries of Carrara and clay and bronze work in the UK but my real love and passion is drawing and painting portraits and life studies which are on show at this exhibition. I have spent the last five years of my ' life in paradise ' doing what I love, which hopefully reflects in my work. I'd like to think that my portraits reinforce the energy and personality of the sitter, reflecting their inner self with an honest and realistic interpretation.
I enjoy the challenge (and many many heartaches!) of setting a goal to create a true representation and to catch that something special. This often takes me many months of work.
I love the sense of freedom that comes from being completely immersed in my work, often working right through the night completely lost in my own little world, no thoughts of anything else but being completely transported, for me there's nothing that can better that feeling!
